What happened to Peter Bearse?

Pete has lived in Benson since he was one year old. He attended the Benson schools. In High School he was President of the Drama Club and served 4 years on the Student Council. He played offensive and defensive end for the Bobcats football team, played basketball, and placed first in State in the high jump in track.

Many said that Pete was the school jokester.

Pete spent 2 years as a combat medic in the Army. After his discharge in 1969 he earned a degree in Art Education with a minor in PE from the U of A in 1972.

He was then hired by the Benson School System where he taught art and coached. He was Division Coach of the Year and the football team were Division Champs for 6 years. The team was State runner-up for 2 years.

He coached girls’ basketball for 8 years with 6 winning seasons including an undefeated season. Pete coached track for 12 years and produced 4 State championships.

Pete also coached the football team for Sahuarito High and took them to District Champions for 4 years.

He retired in 2008 after 36 years of teaching, and still resides in Benson, substitute teaching when needed.

Pete designed and painted the bobcat Victor on the gym floor.
