Second Year of Success
Benson– On June 4, 2016 Hope for Kids, Inc. partnered with local behavioral health care clinic for children, Caring Connections for Special Needs, LLC. to host the 2nd annual Hoops for Hope Basketball Tournament.
The proceeds from this tournament go towards assisting local foster children, local children in need and to the annual Back to School Fair. This year eight teams signed up to compete in a double elimination tournament with the Unicorns taking first place, Elite Sales and Service-Hawks coming in second place and The Young and the Breathless taking third place.
The Hoops for Hope Basketball tournament helped Hope for Kids raise over $1,500 to help purchase backpacks and school supplies for the upcoming 12th Annual Back to School Fair.
Hope for Kids, Inc. started their nonprofit organization in 2014 and have since then kept the Back to School Fair in place for the children in need within the community. The Back to School Fair provides foster children and any children in need with a backpack that has been stuffed with school supplies. The 2015 Back to School Fair provided over 400 backpacks for local foster children and children in need to start their school year in a positive direction. By providing backpacks for these local children it allows for parents to focus on other expenses that might have prevented them from purchasing backpacks and school supplies for their children.
This year Hope for Kids will be outside the Benson Walmart on July 9, 2016 from 8 am to 2 pm for the annual Stuff the Bus. A bus will be provided from Benson Unified School District and Hope for Kids will stuff the bus with donated school supplies and backpacks. These school supplies will be used to help stuff the backpacks for the 12th Annual Back to School Fair being held at the Benson School’s Cafeteria on July 16, 2016 starting at 8am.
Hope for Kids also asks that anyone coming to receive backpacks bring a can of food with them to be donated to the Benson Food Bank.
So far Hope for Kids has received donations from Apache Nitrogen, Arizona G&T and Safeway. These donations not only go towards purchasing school supplies and backpacks for the Back to School Fair, but will go towards the Foster Family Christmas Dinner in December.
